The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff
The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I enjoyed reading the historical parts of the book but the book itself was rather boring with major homosexual overtones that I could not get myself around. It took me forever to finish it because I was just not committed to it.

I LOVED this book! Once I really got into the characters and liked who I liked and HATED who I hated, it was a wonderful read. Lots of perspective from the three different women's point of view. Just knowing that segregation was just a few decades back made me really see just how far things have come. This book was really though provoking and I enjoyed it very much!

This book was very interesting to me because I kept putting myself in the girl's position. I can't imagine being kidnapped at 19 years old and forced to live in someone's garden shed for seven years! And the boy who was born in captivity and never had the chance to see the outside world until he was five years old! I hope and pray that stories like these are just stories, but the sad fact is that things like this could possibly happen. It was a great story and I was very satisfied with the ending.

Great Homework Night
Tonight was a great homework night. The boys each read three books each along with other assignments (math, sentence structure, comprehension, etc.) and didn't complain too much about it. I am really amazed at how well they are both doing, even though Austin is reading at level and Danny is reading below level. It's funny how Austin wants to help Danny on certain words when Danny is reading and it makes Danny SO mad. He has more of a desire to read than Danny but with time, I think Danny will continue to improve and will start to enjoy it as well. Right now, Danny's interests lie in drawing and making picture books. I explained to him that if he could incorporate words in his books, it might help him to read but he only puts in words like Mario, Luigi and Koopa. He did make Austin a homework book that was so cute. I look forward to seeing where they are at the end of the year.

Baby Boy Is Having Growth Spurt
Today I had a doctor's appointment and it was a doozie. I first went into the lab and had to drink the solution for the glucose test, then shortly afterward, my nurse called me back for weighing and blood pressure. Next, my doctor saw me and thought that I needed an ultrasound because my belly had a growth spurt (31 cm) and they needed to make sure that the baby is not too big at 28 weeks. The ultrasound technician said that everything was fine and that the baby is right on target weighing in at 2lbs. 7ozs., which is up from the last appointment where he weighed 1lb. 5ozs. So baby boy is doing really well except for the fact that he is breach right now. However, he should be turning down in the next few weeks and his heart rate is good, showing up in the 140's. Next, came scheduling my next four appointments which are two weeks apart at this point and finally, it was off to the lab again to do the blood drawing for the glucose test.
It certainly was a busy morning but I'm glad we got that all out of the way. It won't be long now and this little boy seems to be excited to greet the world. We all can't wait... especially his brothers!
