Spring is almost here and our lemon tree already has buds. Not only little green buds but beautiful white, purple and yellow flowering buds as well. It is so gorgeous and I just love looking at them.
Tending to lemon trees is somewhat like having a baby. Here are the ways that I find it is similar:
- With a lemon tree, when you see buds coming, it is kind of like finding out your pregnant.
- Just like in pregnancy, you have to nurture the lemon tree with food and water.
- You have to labor in taking care of the lemon tree so that the fruit stays on the tree and no kids or animals get to it. This can be hard work, sort of like laboring with a baby. (Notice: I didn't say painful work, just hard work).
- And finally nine months later, in November, you'll have nice, fresh lemons, just like nine months later, you have a baby.
I know that I'm probably stretching it with my analogy but that's what it reminds me of. So far, the tree is looking really good with tons of little green buds on it. But only time will tell how many will actually make it the nine months to become beautiful lemons.
Here are a few pictures of last year's lemons and a few pictures from my citrus tree as well. The citrus tree is awesome because it yields three types of fruit: oranges, grapefruits and lemons. Last year, we only got oranges but maybe next year, we'll get something else. The fruit on that tree was so sweet and delicious, I can't wait until this year.
